The Metropolitan Free Zone began operations on February 1, 2010. Throughout its development, the Metropolitan Free Zone has grown and diversified in terms of its operating users. It is important to highlight that Zona Franca Metropolitana has ownership of the roofs, facades and walls of all areas, even those that are not its direct property.

The Metropolitan Free Trade Zone is dedicated to various activities, with a particular focus on logistics, which represents 75% of current operations, and manufacturing, which encompasses approximately 15% of activities. In summary, the Metropolitan Free Zone’s main objective is to be a cutting-edge space in logistics, industry and services, providing high-quality and sustainable facilities to attract leading global companies.

Since its initial years, the Metropolitan Free Trade Zone has been a company with a high environmental commitment, which is demonstrated in its daily practices and activities. As a corollary of the above, in 2024 the company achieved its status as a 100% Carbon Neutral Company®.
